Continental Divide Trail Map
Last day at home. Tomorrow, we pick up another hiker and head to Lordsburg to start the trail. There's always a lot of last minute fussing. What are we forgetting? Is everything set at home? Do we have enough food? (It never looks like enough until you pick up the pack!) Do we have enough trail data for the first passages?
My pack's base weight is about 11 pounds. Yeahbut's pack comes in at 14. I'm pleased with the weight, although once I add in 10 pounds of food for the first segment, and water weight, it will be 25-30 pounds. Looking at the water sources, we may be able to get by carrying less than 4-5 liters each, but we'll have to see how the miles go. Hard to plan when we don't know how much route finding will slow us down. Will our gear choices work out? Will we break the compass and phone app the first day? (just kidding!)
My training was a bit different this year, since I did more time at the gym. Will the training be enough? Will this wretched old body hold up?
Despite all the plotting and planning, it always comes down to did we do enough to get ready? Too late to do anything more now, but I always get last minute jitters. Funny thing, as soon as we hit the trail, I settle in, stop worrying, and just enjoy myself.
