Pacific Crest Trail Map

The Motive

Yesterday I finished, the sixth week of the winter semester. three exams down, ten more to go. Now I sit back nursing my Old Rasputin stout mulling through my gear list and reading through medical journals on the best way to deal with my recently injured ankle. Why is my ankle sprained? Well, I did a back flip, a childhood goal that was finally completed, with minor complications. Nonetheless, the Led Zepplin playing reminds me of last years JMT hike and is once again motivating me to get back on the wild ride of unknowns that life on the trail offers.

Sometime around last November I started thinking of the PCT as a reality. At first it was just a thought, a simple what if to tease my mind and distract myself from the brutality of the cold cloudy days that plague the horizon of Michigan winters. Logistics started occupying my free time as I became more entrenched in this idea that gnawing in the back of my mind. Eventually I determined the journey would be monetarily and time feasible. I don't however act as if this is the only thing I want to do with my time. I have so many desires to fulfill, so many options, this trek is just one of the spiritual breakaways that I think that will test the limits of my mind and body. The growth that this will instill will lend me a new perspective, one I am only a tourist in, but working hard to become fluent in.
