Journal Entry

T-Minus 23 hours 15 minutes

As the Sierra faded away in my rearview this morning and the San Gabriel's neared, I felt a quickening. Seeing these SoCal mountains for the first time since last year put everything in perspective. Spending the season buried under Sierra snow made it hard to see past anything else. These mountains are beautiful but make no mistake, the mountains of Southern California are the real deal. They are Sierra-like in elevation, weather and storm conditions and people die up there every year.

I took the scenic route and enjoyed some of the awesome wildflowers. I ran into hikers in Mt. Laguna and felt an immediate kinship. Water is said to be plentiful right now. Best news of the day. I feel like I'm on the edge of something epic. Like I'm sitting blindfolded on a cliff.

Jacumba Hot Springs Resort is the bomb. Nice mineral bath jacuzzi and a couple hot spring-fed swimming pools. The room is great and the food is good too. I highly recommend this little known gem in East San Diego County.
