Planning 2017 northbound PCT hike

Postby Christineaderhold » Sun Jan 24, 2016 10:51 pm

I've only been backpacking a few times and never more than three days at a time. My goal is to hike the PCT in April/May of 2017. At this point I'm just trying to gather as much information as I can from more experienced hikers. Any and all advice is welcome!

Hike, hike and hike some more. Backpack as much as you can. Read the journals and see what other people have done. Try them out and toss out what doesn't work for you. Don't be a fair weather hiker. Hike when it's raining and see how that goes.

And learn how to dehydrate meals. A dehydrated home-made meal can be a real morale booster.

Spend time with the mountains. Get to know them season after season. I recommend spending 3 years backpacking and experiencing snow travel before contemplating a thru hike or jmt or North Cascades section hike.
