CDT Map Project (free)

Now that accurate data of the CDT has become more available, it's time we took a serious pass at creating a set of free maps for the CDT.

Today I bring you the first installment, New Mexico. You can find it on the CDT map page. It does require a login to download the PDF.

We want your feedback. If there is an interest we'll be releasing CO, WY and MT. Particularly, we're interested in alternate route data. CDT hikers are historically big on alternate routes. If you have good, clean data in .kml, .shp or whatever format. Let us know in this forum so we can get it from you.

Let us know of anything else you would like to see changed. This is the brass ring for CDT maps. We can change data and recreate map tiles on a whim or weekly.

The maps are in PDF format, created at 300 dpi for 8.5x11, mega clear printing, with 0.25 inch margins. The scale is 1:39000, contours 80/400. Fire perimeters for the last 6 years are also on the maps. They have elevation profiles and resupply locations within 90 miles of map center. Declinations are calculated at map center for June 2015. NAD83 with decimal degree graticules every 0.01 degree. Alternating page numbers based on trail segment.

At the moment we're using only water and road/trail crossing way points from Jerry Browns latest release. All the other way points have been filtered out.

Let us know what you want!
