PCT TRAILS - WHEN TO RIDE THEM -- and when not to.

Postby Ed Anderson » Sat Jan 09, 2010 7:33 pm

Thanks to the Postholer and the dedication and hard work of co-moderator Susan Bates (Greyhair), we now, at last, have needed trail information, including camp locations, of interest to equestrians. In planning your ride on the PCT, please realize that this information is a work in progress - that trail conditions can and do change from year to year, season to season, month to month - - - and even hour to hour and minute to minute. More than once, I have witnessed trees falling on a nice summer day with little or no wind. On a warm summer afternoon snow and ice are melting at higher elevations, melt water creeks are rising and boulders can break loose starting avalanches that might wipe out the trail. ( "The only thing that is constant is change" This quote from 17th century geologist James Hutton)
