Is cell phone camera good enough?

Postby jenstar » Sun Aug 19, 2012 2:29 pm

Is it preferable to carry both a digital camera and cell phone camera?

My cell phone camera has an 8 mega pixel camera, video too. For the sake of keeping my pack weight down, I'm wonder if it's really necessary to carry both. I'm not Ansel Adams, but I don't want lousy pictures either.

Any suggestions?

Yeah, picture quality has gotten really good with new cameras. If all you want to do is take some decent photos or video for your journal, yeah, just use your phone.

If you want something more, with more features, better quality, you'll probably have to carry a separate device. If you plan on making a video or some kind of high quality public presentation, you'll probably want to do this.

It really just depends on what you want.

Some cell phone cameras can take good photos in good lighting. But they aren't so good in lower lighting, say around camp in the evening or morning. For a thru-hike, I prefer to have something better, but only you know what you want.
