GPS Data Logger (DIY)

Postby Thunder_Thighs » Wed Jan 23, 2013 10:50 am

Back when I hiked parts of the PCT (2005) there was at least one hiker who made a fairly inexpensive data logger from off-the-shelf industrial components. It attached to the outside of his pack and recorded lat/long & elevation at predetermined intervals. The data was then accessed (downloaded) after the hike but was not available while hiking. Depending on the time interval chosen, the batteries lasted a considerable time.

The advantage to this over a hand-held gps was the continual logging and amount of data that could be accumulated.

Anyone have any links or ideas on building one?

Thanks
