Why trail crew volunteers are needed

Here's an example of what Mother Nature can do to the trail. There was a major ice event in this area over the winter months - so bad that falling trees killed two motorists on Highway 2 a bit to the east and shut down the highway for several days. It was unclear at the time if the event affected the PCT - it would appear that it did, at least in places. Our scouts were up in this area on June 28 and saw these trees down. What's not shown are the spots off the trail where even more piles of trees came down.

This video shows only some of the trees down between Stevens Pass Washington (Highway 2) and Lake Valhalla, about 5 trail miles north.

Most of the trees shown are in the Wilderness, so will be cut out with hand saws.
