Anyone for a swim?!

Anyone for a swim?!

The map of the trail shows it as crossing the Kennebec river at around 45.235876N, 70.001424W, in northern Maine. As far as I can see on Google's satellite view, there is no bridge or obvious ford there, and the river looks reasonably substantial and not obviously wadeable. What gives?

Thank the fine folks at the ATC and Maine AT Club for contracting a ferry service, free for hikers.

You can read more about the 2014 crossing at:

Thanks! I am coming to the end of a 3 year project to walk a virtual reality map of the northbound Trail in daily stages on my treadmill, so I didn't need to put my swimming trunks on (!), but it was the first place I had encountered where the Trail did not (if necessary) detour to cross a river on a bridge.
