Vermont - Bennington - Route 9 crossing
This is another one my brother Peter and I really did.
The snow was knee to waist deep and we had no snowshoes (we really were postholing). We camped at Melville Neuheim shelter two nights and hiked into the Glastenbury Wilderness during the day. The next shelter on the other side of route 9 is the Congdon shelter.
On the way out, we hitchhiked from the road into town. We had actually left our car in the chuch parking lot two days earlier because the road into the national forest was so snowy, my Corvette couldn't keep its traction. It was safe and sound on our return and we got there with enough time to wash up and make ourselves presentable for mass at 4 o'clock.

Saturday evening mass: 4 PM
Sunday masses: 8 AM, 10 AM
The church is about 5.2 miles west of the trail.
