Journal Entry

well after 177 days that included cold weather, snow, plenty of rain, 6 pairs of shoes countless bug bites, & 2178.3 miles walked i finished my thru hike. 4-02-09 ---->9-25-09 i reached the summit of Mt. Katahdin friday morning. i was able to finish with 5 friends that i had walked through N.H. & Maine, approx. the last 440 miles.

so many thoughts have been going through my mind, and until today i was feeling that i would have a relatively easy time reintegrating back into life after the trail. let's back up a second. i celebrated with friends friday and was picked up sat afternoon in millinocket ME, about 20 miles from the finish line. i've been staying w/ my uncle andy and aunt laurie just outside of bangor. spent the last few days eating like a king, and watchin football. today i drove down to baaa haaabaa (bar harbor) and drove up cadillac mtn. in acadia national park. it seemed like a great idea driving right up to the top, not having to walk with a loaded backpack, but i strangely enough had a real hard time with it. the hoards of people piling out of their cars and tour buses gave it it a very impersonal feel. it wasn't nearly as rewarding, having not walked to the top. i just felt out of sorts. i guess the reality that my hike was over, and that my fellow AT thru hikers were not there to appreciate the peace and beauty of the mountain along with me was a bit overwhelming . the only thing i had to share was a few tears with the mountain and i was on my way.

it may be sad, but i'm in no way unhappy. i have made so many wonderful friends and was able to share a once in a life time experience. with them.

so i should be home towards the end of this week, and hope to have some time off and hopefully visit with some family and friends. as always thanks for all of your support
