Bought bus tickets!

Well we just bought bus tickets for our trip down to GA and also made reservations for our first night at the Hiker Hostel. The bus ride will be extremely long - 29 hours! But at 175 for the both of us, its the cheapest way down there. The Hiker Hostel is a great little place. They have a Thru-Hiker special where they will pick you up from the bus station and bring you to the hostel, give you fuel, take you to the outfitters, give you a place to stay and breakfast, then take you to the trailhead (of your choice). Its a steal because the trailhead and hostel are miles and miles from the bus station (or the aiport). We also picked up an extra battery for the droids and a 32GB microsd (not a steal at 100 but a good deal because it was regulary 150), a big dry sack, another headlamp, survival bracelts (really just a bracelet made out of 8 feet of 550 paracord but cool anways), and we now have guidebooks (Thanks Colleen!). The only gear we really have left to get is a few more dry sacks and food for the first few days. We have about 8 weeks until we hit the trail so we are going to be spending a lot of time packing stuff to store away and checking out all our gear. I am eager to load up the packs with all our gear and clothes and start weeding out what we will not need. Then I want to do at least one weekend backpacking - a trial run - to make sure we have everything we will need. So we will have a busy few weeks but I will try to keep on posting here!

Appalachian Trail Thru Hike 2011

The Appalachian Trail (A.T.) is more than 2,175-mile long footpath stretching through 14 eastern states from Maine to Georgia. Conceived in 1921 and first completed in 1937, it traverses the wild, scenic, wooded, pastoral, and culturally significant lands of the Appalachian Mountains. Learn more:
