Day 2

Slept poorly last night. Shelter floor is not comfy. Got up around 715 and on trail by 745. Then stopped for water. First bit was easy and pretty. Stopped and saw long creek falls which had more water then anticipated and was quite scenic. Got briefly turned around on way back to the trail, but figured it out. Then there was a long gradual uphill which should have been easy but for some reason was very tiring. Just didn't feel energetic today.

Stopped at hawk mountain shelter for lunch, spot and ran into first people in 18 hours, including another thru. Miles came easier for awhile after food and drink. Climbed sassafrass mountain and it was steep but not as bad as expected, just took it slow. Kind of dawdled after that and took many breaks, still not feeling energetic. During last mile the rain started after threatening all day. . I got a little wet, but not too bad. Shortly after getting into shelter the sky opened up and it's now pouring. Severe thunderstorm warning and tornado watch. Joy. Safe and dry in shelter though, but only 515. 5 others here with me tonight.

Appalachian Trail - 2011

"May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. May your mountains rise into and above the clouds."
-- Edward Abbey
