Appalachian Trail Map

AT Hike

Only 5.1 miles up Mt. Katahdin today to complete AT. Get up at 4:30 for an early start and on trail by 5:30. Expediter and Instigator lead off. Russell, Chicken Feathers, and I follow in separate group. Rugged climb - we all make it to peak before noon. Beautiful windy day but can see weather front moving in. Spend an hour or so on top and then head down. Ironically, with bad knees and bum ankle, takes longer getting down in one piece than going up. Back at the rangers station, MaMaw B has just checked in and we meet a new South Bounder ready to begin his hike to GA. Like all of us at the beginning, he has too much of some stuff and is missing a few other important pieces of equipment. Russell gives him his hiking poles and I offer up my pack rain cover. Each of us will have more than enough time to resupply in the months ahead.
