Doubt

Shannon Mobley wrote on Facebook's "PCT Class of 2012":

"Woke up this morning full of doubt, thinking, "OMG, 2650 miles? Are you crazy?" Anyone else having this experience? And how do you deal with it?"

I think about this often. Friends and family often instigate these thoughts. I certainly have disrupted my cozy existence to go on "walkabout" across the west coast. My response was:

"A journey of 2650 miles begins with a single step... Seriously, my wife, Becky, is absolutely certain we can complete a long distant hike. I'm mostly worried about injuries - sometimes it seems that even though I'm strong, I'm also fragile. I'll start at the beginning and put one foot in front of another in a continuous line with the intention of reaching the terminus, and every day will be an adventure."

Chris And Becky's 2012 Excellent Adventure

The Appalachian Trail (A.T.) is more than 2,175-mile long footpath stretching through 14 eastern states from Maine to Georgia. Conceived in 1921 and first completed in 1937, it traverses the wild, scenic, wooded, pastoral, and culturally significant lands of the Appalachian Mountains. Learn more: www.appalachiantrail.org
