The Start

The First Day

Great day one. Flew into Greenville SC yesterday and stayed with my Uncle Dan, Aunt Tracey, and their kids, Alex and Daniel. We drove to the trail this morning by way of Dahlonega, stopping to see Trail Fest and catching part of a parade. We opted for the forest service road that meets up with the AT one mile north of the actual start, so we all hiked together south up Springer. Then, after signing the register, we returned to the car, and I continued north. It was only in the upper 30s at the start of the hike but warmed up a bit in the afternoon. There wasn't a cloud in the sky. Lots of other people starting out too. The temperature dropped rather quickly around 5, so I stopped for dinner shortly after, and once I found a flat spot decided to pitch my tent for the night. Definitely going to be cold tonight. Feels good to be out here.

Thanks to Dan, Tracey and the boys for a great send off!!
