A cool shelter from Two days ago

November 16, 2015

November 16, 2015 Monday
Day 157
Miles about 2158
Miles left: 32
Days left:2

We left our camp, an amazing one that was flat and quiet except for a few owls. The morning hike was along a long dead logging road that was gentle flat and with small streams flowing across it. We met up with Taco later in the morning for an early lunch and one of our climbs for the day. We had another amazingly beautiful day; cool, not too much sunshine and dry. We ended up at our destination at about 13:00, Neel's Gap and Mountain Crossings Outfitters and Hostel, where we are tonight. The building is a nice old stone CCC building with an outfitter on one side and a hiker hostel on the other. The AT actually runs through a breezeway in the building between the two. Here it is a random Monday night in November and the Hostel is packed. We had an amazing impromptu jam session with a group of older section hikers and a couple of other random musicians on guitar, ukulele and harmonicas. Someone showed up with a bongo drum and didn't want to play it so I joined in with percussion. It turns out that Taco plays with a Bluegrass Band. It was a really fun jam!
Tomorrow is our last night out in a tent for the trip, crazy to think about. Then we are in another Hostel then heading to Houston. 20 miles tomorrow then a 15 miler to Springer mountain summit at the Southern terminus the next day. We will be in the rain.
