My actual Mileage and estimated dates at locations (before I get there) are located here.
Interactive AT Map is here.
I have used a lot of information from Carl Zimmerman's hike in 2013 to plan my 2016 hike. Specifically, his hiking spreadsheet with hiking times is here, blog is here, and summary video is here. Thanks Carl! He also turned me on to a series of videos on youtube from "Loner" for his 2012 thru-hike.
Additionally, a friend from Boy Scout Jamboree 2013 (Lisa Balbes) introduced me to a friend with the trail name "Hoyt" who shared his blog and some phone time with me on his experiences.
Shug has a whole series of videos on how to use a hammock that was very interesting. I'm going to use a hammock for my entire trek.
How to Thru Hike the Appalachian Trail: A 101 Guide - here
I made a fancee-feast stove like this one for my cooking needs.
And this is a good video showing a time-lapse view of most of the trail, called The Green Tunnel.
Awesome video of a "Halfway There" spot!
I am 45 years old with a wonderful wife, two awesome boys, and a dog taking a Leave With Out Pay (LWOP) from my job to hike the AT. I am an Eagle scout, a scoutmaster and, father to two Eagle scouts. I'll be hiking the first two weeks with my brother and first four weeks with a co-worker. Beyond that, I'm on my own. I estimate my completion date to be August 15-18ish, barring any unforeseen injuries, or happenings back home that would require my abandonment of my goal. These are things that are out of my control and I do not worry about them. The only thing I worry about is getting out of my own mind when I'm alone with my thoughts... Posting a public blog will hopefully help me get over the "mind hump" to finish the job. :)
Everything is awesome!
