I’m “shifting gears”. The biopsy taken from the right side of my neck turned out to be a mild form of skin cancer. Yesterday (Dec. 21, 2018), I went and had it removed and was informed that they got all of it, this is a BIG Relief.
The abdominal aortic ultra-sound I had done showed that I have a mild dilatation of the abdominal aorta. My doctor will be monitoring this.
Now that I’m no longer in the dark as to my health, I’m back into “planning mode” for my upcoming hike.
I’ve decided to do a “Flip-Flop” hike. The idea of an End-to-End, hike finishing on majestic Mt. Katahdin in Maine, is not all that important to me any longer, what is important, is completing the trail in one calendar year to gain the Thru-Hiker Title.
I figured since I’ve been on top of Katahdin twice and Springer twice, it’s now time to get down to business and complete the trail.
I’m now considering starting at Rockfish Gap, (Waynesboro, Va.), hiking North to Katahdin, and then coming back to Rockfish Gap, and hiking South to Springer. The weather will be the deciding factor as far as my actual start date, but I figure sometime mid-April to the first part of May.
Hiking this way should have me avoiding much of the cold weather as well as avoiding the mass of hikers wanting to do an End-to-End type hike.
There are two options to make an impact in someone's life... One is by being mean, and the other is by being kind!
