Spence field shelter mile 184

Hiking Day 18: Departure time 8:30 am
Activity: Backpack

A nice dog and her person joined us in the shelter, both were quiet. We me, Rocket Legs, Stray Cat, and Kevin walked a mile or so to the dam, its one of the biggest TVA dams. A few more miles and we arrive at the park entrance, with permit drop box. The trail was easier today, smoother and not as steep. After a few hours of rolling hills with green trees, we got to an old fire lookout. I went halfway up, above the trees and saw great views. Everyone else went to the top. A few more hours, rolling hills, and green trees and we got to tonights shelter. In addition to our group, a few section hikers are here.

FYI: in the smokies non thru hikers need reservations and must stay in the shelters. Thru hiker must stay either in shelters with room, or just outside.

We hiked 15 miles, 4700 up 2200 down.

PS thank you everyone for your notes and calls, we love to share them with our hiking friends.
