ready to go (almost)
My gear list is finalized and I am 98% sure what I am taking will suffice. I am
considering a few additions, but not sure if I want to pull the trigger on them just
yet or wait until I get on trail to decide if I want them. These include:
1. A pair of gaiters. Dirty Girls seem to be the way to go, and at 20 bucks a pair
it wont be devestating if I dont use them, but for some reason I cant seem to
bring myself to order a pair. It's not that I have a hard time parting with 20 bucks,
I just dont know.
2. A pair of heavy wool blend winter socks. Are they going to be just another pair of
socks that will wet-out? Will my feet be warm enough without them? I'll definately
send them home once the weather warms up/snow is gone.
3. Pack cover...i'm debating between a pack cover, poncho, or niether.
4. Microspikes...I know they are useful on the PCT but are they really that
necessary on the AT?
Other than that I'll pick up a little Luko tape to add to my 1st aid kit and thats about it.
I figure if I am leaving something out or grossly underestimating the usefulness of a
piece gear then I can always pick it up at a trailside outfitter.
Im stepping off March 5th (March 4th if I do the approach trail from Amicalola). The
wife and I are going to spend a few days in Nashville, one in Chattanooga, and an overnight
in Amicalola before I step out on the trail. Looking forward to spending some time in
Tennessee as I have never been. I hear Hattie B's hot chicken is supposed to be good.
