Arizona Trail Map
Long, hungry day for us. Usually there is a strong motivation for our longest walks, and today was no different. We were on our last day of food and were eager to get to Jacob Lake for our resupply.
We took the highway for a lot of the day, as it closely parallels the tail. We went trough miles and miles of desolation. A big fire came through and took out everything in 2006 and we suspected another fire came maybe even more recently than that.
The pavement was a different feeling than trail. The hard surface hurt feet and hips. The road is closed until May, so only a few park service trucks drove by. Mostly the highway was all ours.
Our big effort was rewarded with some burgers at the Jacob Lake Inn, as well as our resupply box. Tomorrow, it's looking like we're finishing the trail.
A note on our animal sighting yesterday. When I saw the animals I thought they were so huge they could be bison. I reasoned that they were probably bears.
Then at Jacob Lake they tell me there are no bears in the area. None. I'm not sure I believe it, but with rumors I had heard about bison wandering into the North Kaibab I wonder if we hadn't seen a couple bison.
