Almost ready
The flurry of preparing for an extended absence is upon us. Yesterday we shipped our first resupply box to Superior. We will send our second box to the Roosevelt Marina store tomorrow. Alicia's wonderfully supposrtive Mom will ship the rest for us and keep our spare gear box in case we need replacements along the trail. We could not have hiked 236 miles of the Arizona Trail and the 500 mile Colorado Trail last year without the support of many incredible folks. Our friends and church family uplift us with prayers for our safety. Trail Angels blessed us with rides, showers and food along the way. We are eternally grateful that the Lord has given us the strength to see his creation on foot.
Synopsis: We started a thru-hike of the AZT in 2015 making it to the Freeman Rd TH at the end of Passage 14 after 236.5 miles. After scary water and heat reports from hikers ahead of us, we decided to skip ahead to Passage 18 and come back to hike the missing miles later. We hiked 13 miles in from Superior and found the water sources dry. At that point, we decided to postone the rest of the hike until 2016 since we live in AZ.
We are replacing the email updates from last year with journal entries after being inspired by our new friends from the CT, Split and Two Step. If you'd like some interesting reading, look up their journals on this website as well.
"In terms of distance hiking, I think of nature as our compass, pointing the way to our Creator. The Holy Bible as our guide book, filling us with resolve and providing directions at each of life's confounding junctures. And Jesus as providing us passage over the unwadable gap, and to eventually triumph in our celestial quests." Ray Jardine from The Pacific Crest Trail Hiker's Handbook
But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint. Isaiah 40:31
In anticipation,
