Long drive, long hike
After almost 5 hours in the truck, we hiked 17.2 miles to a water source. It was a long day and we were thrilled to find it since the sun was about to set (some are tricky to locate). Then we looked in the tank - yum dead bugs for extra protein! That's why we have a good filter. The water is from a spring and had a bit of a funny taste but we're still upright. It wasn't too hot and there was a nice breeze. Plenty of down into the wash and back out but otherwise pretty easy by backpacking standards. We ran into a section hiker from Calgary a couple times today and some mule deer. Pretty sure we scared a snake in a bush next to the trail but can't count it since we didn't lay eyes on it. Happy to have water at the end of the day.
