Better Weather For Training
As predicted, the smog cleared out for a few days this last week, but then the winds changed back and brought a new blanket to the Willamette Valley. Apparently fires from as far away as British Columbia are contributing to our air quality problem. Funny, I talked to my brother in LA and he mentioned they were have flash flood warning's and that we had their weather and they had our weather. I guess I just have to get used to the new normal.
Anyway, with somewhat cooler temps and a slight improvement in air quality it has been a little easier to get out and do training hikes. I am back up to about 15 miles every other day and today I started carrying a 25 pound backpack. My foot complained a little when I first started, but then apparently got used to the idea and stopped talking to me. I am cautiously optimistic.
Gear wise I have ordered a Katadyn BeFree filter to try out. I actually got one in the mail yesterday, but it was defective so I sent it back to REI for replacement. It should arrive early next week and I'll give it a good test before committing to it for the rest of the AZT. It promises to be lighter than the Sawyer squeeze that I'm using and have a better flow rate. So I am excited to try it out.
That's it for now. I'll just keep plugging away at the training hikes, reassemble all my camping gear, and get my resupply boxes together to be ready by the second week in September.
So until next week Happy Trails
