Mexico border
Mexico past Miller Peak
3-15-17
The first day couldn't be more interesting. My brother and I hiked to the border and back, and then he sent me off north towards Miller Peak. The first two thousand feet weren't bad with smooth trails and fresh legs. The last thousand feet were steeper and I was starting to get tired.
On the north side of the mountain I got to hike through snow! It wasn't as bad as I anticipated. My poles indicated about 1.5 ft in places. When I got high enough, I was on pine forrest and the tread was pine straw. It is so soft to walk on!
I got a bit confused at Bear Spring and logged some bonus miles!
I camped at 13.4 with Tally Ho and a few others hikers who were kind enough to share their fire and some summer sausage! Nice folks from Boston who escaped the snow storm too! Also camped with Cupcake and Beans. Beans did the PCT last year, so it was good talking with her.
There were about a dozen turkeys in camp. They must have been on the lookout for food because they never went too far away. I could hear them gobble in the night.
