snow is outside, I am inside. in sweatpants
Greetings and welcome to my story of How I Hiked the AZT in 2018. I'm Squarepants, this is the preface, and all I can tell you is that I really hope I don't get mauled by a Cow in chapter 5 or die of dehydration in Chapter 7. Will either of these happen? I guess you'll have to follow along to find out!
I officially decided to hike the AZT just last week, and I plan to start in about 9 days, so overall I am dealing with pretty quick turnaround for preparation. Over the past 2 weeks, in all that time which I haven't spent working/doing taxes/climbing/eating, I've been chipping away at my trail prep list. Mostly, these include buying lots of little pieces of gear online and hoping they arrive at my house before I actually leave to hike. I think Gossamer Gear is sick of getting emails from me.
Now, though, I am finishing up all the little TO-DO's like making sure I know how to set up my new tarp, doing inventory on my first aid kit, and downloading dope-ass playlists to my iPod. Also, figuring out whether water caches are necessary, and setting up this blog! It's a gray, snowy day in SLC, so I'm hunkered down in my dwelling, thinking about bic-minis and cutting a toothbrush in half.
it's hiking season!
