Arizona Trail Map

Why again?

If you follow our adventures, you are asking 'why again?' If you haven't heard of us until now, you don't know our history here. We live in Arizona and love this place. We first section hiked the Arizona Trail over a few years, before it was a National Scenic Trail. It was quite rough then, poor to no trail tread, GPS definitely needed, and we cursed the trail a lot! We through hiked it in 2016; a better experience and a better trail. Then 2018 came along. It had been very dry in 2017 and throughout the winter and we wondered: what would the trail be like during the drought? Well, the trail was better, the water sources (for Arizona) weren't too bad, but the desert looked like it was suffering...brown and sad. This year, Arizona has had a wonderful amount of rain and snow, so we are hopeful that the flowers and brush will be blooming. We want to see the desert at its best! So we will go for a fourth time along this incredible route.
We aren't getting any younger, so we won't always push the miles. Preparation and training are taking lots of time right now, but we have the advantage of knowing quite a bit of what's ahead. I've had fun reading the posts on the Class of AZT 2019 FB page, and giving information when I can. I hope to meet a few of the people out on the trail this year.
Here's to adventure and the joy that comes from a walk in the wilderness!
