Arizona Trail Map

And more trail...

An early start to avoid the sun in the burn area. We start at a wildlife tank (with water) and get to see a variety of birds and 1 deer come by. The area has taller aspens each year. The grasses are growing thick. It's the perfect place for deer to hang out (and later in the season, cows). The trail parallels the highway. We occasionally hear or see vehicles, but not the usual traffic for this time of year. A good thing for the deer, as a few are hit every year by tourists speeding to reach the N Rim of Grand Canyon.
We walk a few miles thru the aspens, then arrive back in ponderosa pine forest. The welcome shade persists as we gradually descend to the highway on pleasant trail. We cross several dirt roads. Another wildlife water collector and dirt tank is passed. So few deer this year on the trail! We saw lots along the highway when driving in, so the grazing must be better up there. A few red squirrels, some robins, some mourning doves. And peaceful silence and solitude.
When we reach the highway, a nice couple offers us water. Most of the vehicles we've seen up here have been from Utah or Arizona. Guess it's a bit harder to reach this area with the parks closed.
