Colorado Trail Map

Back on the trail and nearing the end!

I slept great on the pull out bed, but woke up really early around 5:30am. I got caught up on some emails and wrote some journal entries for the last few days because my phone has been without power. Chris got up and we loaded up in the car and we were off to take me to Hotel Draw. Chris had to take care of a few things along the way and one of those things was to go pick up his car with Emily's car and then bring Emily's car back to the house. Long story short we did the car exchange and started heading up to Hotel Draw only to get a call from Emily saying that my backpack was in her back seat. Well I wasn't going to make it very far without that. Or maybe I could of made it farther but would have nothing to keep me warm or to eat. We turned around and eventually Chris dropped me off at the trail at 12:00pm. The sky soon began to stir up a storm and I watched as lightining flashed through the sky and the thunder rumbled though the canyons. The trail went through some amazing country today and I was lucky that the skies cleared for a little bit as I climbed to the open and exposed landscape just over 12,000ft. I contined on with my tired legs and eventually got to the first water source since I started today. I really had not choice on milage today if I wanted water. I hiked just short of 20 miles. I only have just over 20 more miles to go on the trail. Tomorrow I will look for a campsite a few miles from the finish and then hope to finish early on Wednesday and then catch at flight home in the early afternoon.

Two Heel Drive

The Colorado Trail is Colorado's premier long distance trail. Stretching almost 500 miles from Denver to Durango, it travels through the spectacular Colorado Rocky Mountains amongst peaks with lakes, creeks and diverse ecosystems. Trail users experience six wilderness areas and eight mountain ranges topping out at 13,334 feet. According to the latest figures, The Colorado Trail averages 10347' throughout its length! The Continental Divide Trail and The Colorado Trail share the same treadway for 200+ miles. It takes most hikers 4-6 weeks to hike the trail. Five weeks is a very average pace.
