Colorado Trail Map
I was fortunate enough to be able to spend five months hiking the PCT last year.
I hiked, sweated, laughed, and cried from Mexico to Canada. I got lost (more than once), became an excellent toilet paper thief, and wore out five pairs of shoes. I was attacked by hornets, stung by bees, bitten by ants, chased by marmots, and nearly given a heart attack by hundreds of grouse. I jumped in lakes and fell in creeks, survived lightning storms at altitude, blizzards, torrential rains, hail, and the desert heat. I met incredible people who all restored my faith in humanity. I got poison oak, in a very, very bad place. I mooned a group of boy scouts, and flashed some hot day hikers (not intentionally, either time). I learned to hitch hike, perfected my hiker hobble, lost a toenail, and won an eating competition.
I emerged at the Canadian border after exactly five months of being bloodied, bruised, blistered, burned, and bitten.
... and I loved every single step.
Returning to civilization was the hardest thing I've ever gone through. After only a few months of hot food, air conditioning and running water, my soul has begun to scream for the wilderness again, so I'll be heading out in early August on my next adventure.
