On the Boucher Trail

Almost time to get serious!

Don't you just love the spring? The temps and weather are finally warm enough that we have been out hiking. We did a section of the Arizona Trail during a recent lunar eclipse. We camped on an open ridge and watched the moon eclipse as it neared the horizon, just before dawn. Incredible!
We also did a trip at the Grand Canyon. We followed the Tonto Trail west to Boucher, then exited up the Boucher/Hermit trails. Beautiful views of the Colorado River, few people, challenging terrain, wonderful camping.
Followed these trips with a road trip to Lake Moreno and the PCT Kick-Off event. We've tried to help out each year, as payback for all the wonderful experiences we've had on that trail. It's always exciting to see the hikers starting their journey northbound...all the experiences that await them!
We just got home from a trip from Buckskin Gulch to Lee's Ferry (on the Colorado River below Lake Powell). We hiked with some California friends who had their first backpacking experience in a slot canyon. Hopefully, they enjoyed the variety of terrain as much as we did.
Now, we have a bit over a month to prepare for the Colorado Trail and Washington (we plan to go up there after Colorado). Getting the resupply boxes together has become pretty simple. We've got the nutrition thing down, so it's just a matter of sorting things into boxes for each resupply point. We both are straining our brains about the GEAR...can we shave off a few more ounces? I'll try and keep posting about changes from last year. Seems like I could trim the cookset a bit, as well as the first aid/emergency gear. Maybe just take the Aqua Mira for the water? Well, lots of time to debate things like this...
We also need to bump up the training some. Always a balance between training hard enough and getting injured...I'll try to post what we are doing just before we leave.
Yeah, hiking season is finally here!
