Post hike and post knee surgery update

As I suspected, having arthroscopy was the right thing to do. The good news--and this is really great news--is that although my knee was a mess due to arthritis in the patellar-femoral portion (around the knee cap), the rest of it looks quite good. That would be the weight bearing part. So, the doctor removed bone spurs and a calcium deposit which was blocking my ability to fully straighten my knee out, as well as a mass of inflammed synovial tissue. I could tell the difference right after surgery, or at least by the next day. What a relief! My doctor is terrific--Dr. George Branche at the Anderson Clinic--in that his philosophy is to keep his patients doing what they want to do (with the exception of running in my case). Backpacking the CDT is still on my agenda, so next year, we will pick up where we left off! Hooray!
