Hexamid just north of Glen Pass

ZPack's Hexamid

I bought the hexamid tent when it was first introduced in January 2010. It's worked well but I still haven't tested it in heavy rain. It's raining in California right now and I should pitch it in my back yard but I just can't make myself do it. The CDT should test the rain protection plenty! But I have tested it in high winds. I hiked the JMT last August/September. The picture shows my campspot just north of Glen Pass. I could not get any stakes in the ground so this set-up is only using rocks. The wind was crazy that night and the tent stayed up!!! I was very impressed. The next night was more of the same below Forester Pass but I didn't have any wind break. I think I got one stake in the ground. The tent rocks. It's good to have confidence in one's gear. I recently sent it back to Joe to have an extended beak added. So it now weighs 9.5oz seam sealed and with all the guylines and tensioners. I'm not sure if I love it more all day when it is in my pack or when I'm in it at night!

Nancy Hikes The Continental Divide Trail

"I wish I knew where I was going. Doomed to be carried of the spirit into the wilderness, I suppose. I wish I could be more moderate in my desires, but I cannot, and so there is no rest." John Muir
