Continental Divide Trail Map

Trail Angel Wendy

Some days are great like yesterday and some days are hard. The hiking today
was hard. After about a half mile of sweet trail we crossed a dirt road and
started down a trail clearly marked with several CDT signs. A few minutes
later I realized this didn't jive with the map I had looked at in camp. I
checked the gps. We were supposed to be on the road. I have no idea where
this CDT trail goes but we took the road. 8 miles of pretty boring dirt
which was right along a huge copper mine. Then we got to hwy 90 which we
got to walk for 12 miles. Ugh! Pavement hurts.

The day totally turned around when a car pulled up behind us. It was Wendy
a friend from Sacramento who now lives here. The plan had been to call her
when we got into Silver City. She was running some errands and left her
house at the perfect time to intersect us. She took us to her house for
cold drinks and a break then back out to the hwy. But this time our packs
remained in her car. We got to slack pack the next 4 or 5 miles into Silver
City. Thank you, Wendy.

What a cute town. The motels are at the far end of town so a bit of a walk
for hikers without a car. But we have Wendy! We had a great Mexican dinner
with Wendy and her brother who is a great story teller. Tomorrow she is
going to show us around and i'm going to try to stay off my feet. They are
starting to feel like hikers feet screaming "what are you doing to us?"

Shower, clean clothes, a bed.... Life is good!
