Continental Divide Trail Map

New Mexico

Hard to believe it but here we are in New Mexico. Colorado was..... HARD! Difficult hiking with elevation (I trail is a above 10k feet for almost the entire state), and weather (frequent thunderstorms) challenges. It was beautiful and inspiring hiking but I am glad it's behind me. So far NM has been beautiful. High rolling hills with Aspens displaying their fall colors. The terrain is getting lower, flatter, and dryer as we hike. Soon we will be in the desert and distance between water sources will be our primary challenge. The hiking has been easier and we are making about 25 miles per day since entering NM.

Currently, we are holed up in Santa Fe having Yogi'ed a ride here from Ghost Ranch. I am having some sort of dental problem (of allthe things to take me off the trail!). My tooth is quite painful and eating has been difficult. What torture it is the walk around Whole Foods unable to eat most of what I see! I am hoping this can be dealt with easily tomorrow at the dentist and we will be back on-trail by Tuesday.
