New Mexico/ Colorado Line

I slept like babe in the woods. So much better in the pine trees than by a road. Elk came down to drink from the lake. We have seen elk every day I think. What a difference from last year when Gabi, Why Wait and I postholed in snow and rock climbed the face of a cliff to find the trail!

A cowboy on a horse stopped to ask us if we had seen his herd. We had, and told him where to find them. He told us of a shortcut down a valley to the highway.

Today we crossed into Colorado and I swear, I will not hike New Mexico again! At least till I finish the CDT! We were met at Cumbres Pass by Outhere and Come a Long with an Orange Sunkist and a Pepsi and they took us back to South Fork after a stop for food in Chama! They have been our primary support team for New mexico and can't thank them enough!
