OK, got looking at my weights and the one thing that I had that I knew was un-realistic and stood out like a sore thumb was my precious, brand new, Redfield Range Finder Monocular. It cost me about 120 bucks and really like it. However, it weighs 5.75 oz. I decided to ditch it and go with a little Brunton Monocular that weighs 1.8 oz. Save where you can! Why take a monocular?? Well, Years ago I was on a Outward Bound program and it was for a month or six weeks, can't remember. This was in the beautiful Western Cascades of Washington State. Well, I had along a pair of binoculars that my folks had given me. Looking back on it they were heavy as all get out. Back then though we looked at things differently. Anyway, during this experience I received so much pleasure from these binoculars that it stands out distinctly to me. They were wonderful in looking at wildlife AND route finding as we did a lot of bushwacking. By the way, I still have the binoculars and a connection to my folks. Dad gave me a love for the outdoors. I remember lots of times together hiking and camping. He even would take me as a young boy into the woods with a book and we would work on identifying trees. What fun. If you're looking down from heaven, Thanks Dad! So if you are in the market for a Redfield Range Finder Monocular write me at davidschlewitz@rocketmail.com These things send out a laser and it bounces back and gives you the range. That was incidental to me when I bought it. I liked it's lightweight style. Yet the other monocular is lighter and actually a lot cheaper. No high tech though.
