Continental Divide Trail Map

The Usual Getting Ready Interspersed with regular life

I've been buying food for my New Mexico CDT hike, starting on April 10 with the CDTC inaugural shuttle from Lordsburg to Hachita to the Mexican border.

A new piece of equipment for me--a Gossamer gear Mariposa pack. I am looking forward to lightening up with it from my Gregory Jade 60. I will see if it is as comfortable with heavier loads.

Today I carried a 30 pound "practice" pack filled with full water bottles up the steep "White Rabbit" trail in the Ashland watershed. I have been training at least three days a week with this loaded pack--my usual fitness routine for the last couple years.

The Ley maps are printed, the Bear Creek maps are here and now I'm just waiting to pack my re-supply boxes for mailing. I want to thank Wired, who hiked the CDT last year, for advice on preparing for the trail. (walkingwithwired.com)

I used Alaska Airline miles and got a $ 5 ticket to Tucson, then a $ 28 Greyhound ticket to Lordsburg, New Mexico. I wanted to go AMTRAK from Tucson to Lordsburg but it was totally booked over a month in advance.

I am a big fan of Georgia O'Keeffe's artwork, so I'm thrilled to be able to spend a few days at Ghost Ranch staying in a room surrounded by her iconic landscapes.
