Durango Train Station

Zero in Durango

I did do a lot of walking today in downtown Durango. I got breakfast at the farmer's market in the morning and met two women at a Colorado State University extension master gardener's booth. I graduated from CSU in 1987. I made plans with Stacy to have dinner later. There was a brewfest going on at Buckley Park, but it cost $ 25 and was crowded and noisy, and rain was threatening, so I opted to take a 2 hour tour of the railroad yard. Gary S. was a great tour guide. He knew everything about every aspect of the train--from how the cars are re-furbished to the history. I really enjoyed this tour. We walked around all the areas of the railyard and saw the carpenter shop, the turntable, where the engines are serviced and the metal working done, ending at the museum. I met Stacy and we ate at the Himalayan Kitchen Tibetan restaurant and then had a beer sampler at a local pub. Colorado beers are going to give Oregon a run for it's money--they were all uniformly excellent. I heard that 50 brewers were at the San Juan Brewfest. I also checked out several outdoor gear shops in town to see what they had new and lightweight.
