There is a wonderful organization called the Semper Fi Fund www.semperfifund.org. It provides assistance to injured service men and women and veterans of all branches of military service with help in addressing their needs either while still on active duty or afterwards. Their web site explains itself very well.
I will be donating $ .25 per mile that I walk this year on the CDT to this organization. It provides me with additional incentive to make it to Wyoming and complete my objective. I invite anyone to make a donation to Semper Fi based on their own reasoning. Some friends have promised to simply pay $ .25 per mile, some more, some less; or, make a single donation regardless of miles walked. If you do decide to donate simply:
1. send me an email with your name, email address and how much you promise to donate. No money to be sent until I am done hiking.
2. I will email you when done hiking with directions on where/to whom to send your donation at the Semper Fi organization
3. Then you send in your donation
I recommend all to make due diligence in assessing the viability and reputation of the Semper Fi Fund...as all presenting philanthropic organizations. Sorry to say, some organizations pay their managers and staff big bucks with high overhead and administration fees rather than maximizing the reasoned disbursal of funds to their respective customers. Here is a site that helps in your scrutiny: http://www.charitynavigator.org. Yes, even these sites may lend to public analysis as well.
So, I hope you do decide to make a donation to the Semper Fi Fund. Thank you for your consideration.
Update: If you are interested in making a donation just go to: https://fundraising.semperfifund.org/fundraise?fcid=328133 and follow the steps. I am sure deserving recipients will appreciate your help. Thank you.
