Eighteen Miles And Resupply
I have assembled almost all of my food for the trip as of yesterday. For two items I only have a couple weeks supply, but that will be enough to be able to send out my first resupply packages next week. I should be able to acquire the rest and get all of the resupply boxes filled before I leave. At least that's my goal so that Nancy can just take them to the post office.
Looks like there'll be about 11 boxes altogether, which is the most I've ever sent. The main reason I am sending resupply boxes and not buying in local stores along the way is due to weight. With careful selection and use of freeze-dried products I can get the weight of the food down to about 1.5 pounds per day. From the supermarket it averages about two to two and a half pounds a day depending on what the local store has in stock.
In other news, I am up to 18 miles a day in my training. So toward the end of my hike today the area of my right EDL tendon got pretty sore. That got me pretty worried that my tendinitis was coming back. After limping along for nearly a mile, I readjusted my pack’s hip belt and the pain went away. So this turned out to be compression of a nerve in my hip with referred pain to my ankle. Regardless, I was relieved to discover that it wasn't my tendinitis returning.
So things are coming together here at the end. I have transportation to New Mexico, accommodations in Lordsburg, and transportation to the trailhead lined up. My first couple of resupply boxes are ready to go and the rest should be done by the time I leave. Looking good…
