Zero Day in Leadore

Zero Day in Leadore

We explored Leadore, Idaho, yesterday, first looking for the important hiker locations: the amenities of our hotel, the general store and its treats, and the local restaurant/bar. After some cleanup, we walked from our hotel about 100 feet down to the Silver Dollar Restaurant and had a very enjoyable meal. That evening, we retired to Sams, and the hotels front porch swing, and enjoyed some conversation before bed.

Today we had a hearty and tasty breakfast at the Silver Dollar, and afterwards explored the public library directly across the street. In addition to very adequate WiFi, a great selection of used books for sale if a hiker needs more weight to carry, and a concise and informative mural giving the history of Leadore, we met the friendly and informative librarian, Roberta, who filled in the details on the daily life in this East Idaho town. As we walked back to the hotel we passed Galena street, Galena being the primary mineral associated with lead-ore (Leadore ;-). Then we walked down Silver Street to the side entrance of our hotel, silver being the other primary mineral mined along with the lead.

The afternoon was filled with Two-Step exploring the water availability in the upcoming sections, and both of us working on this journal. Most importantly, we feel rested, fed, and relaxed in preparation for our next long backcountry CDT journey, which will start tomorrow.
