Cumulative Distance vs Days Hiking

Year End Summary of Metrics (Distance, Speed, etc.)

See the previous post for a summary of our impressions and memories of our 2017, 2018 CDT hike. We think you will find it worth reading.

The current post you are now reading is a graphcal summary of the various metrics we tracked during our CDT hike.

This is a work in progress!

Check back later for more complete data, but...

The reason we kept such detailed journal, writing every night regardless of how exhausted, wet, or cold we had become, was so that we would have a more detailed memory of every day of our CDT adventure. However, for our own future planning, as well as to answer questions by curious friends and followers, it is useful to have some hard data to show. How many miles did you go every day? How fast did you hike? How many vertical feet did you climb every day?

If you've read this journal, you know the answers vary greatly from day to day, from flat to mountainous terrains, and also as we transition from recently transplanted townies to trail hardened CDT hikers. We've included the following graphs to provide visual answers to the above questions. I hope you find them as useful as I have.

Again, this is a work in progress. I produced similar charts for our AT hike, but I'm getting acquainted with new graphical products, spreadsheets, and JPEG converters, as well as greatly enjoyig rereading all our blog posts, so this is taking much longer than I expected.
