This is my first journal post for my CDT 2018 thru-hike. I've been training in the Truth or Consequences area, mostly on BLM land between Elephant Butte and Caballo Lake. The area has offered varied terrain with elevations with lots of puds.
My training has been scaled starting from a very small day pack with just water scaling up to the current weight I'm training with, about 40 lbs. I've carried he mileage from 5 to 12 a day, averaging around 40 to 50 a week.
Starting in the last week I've begun dehydrating food and pulling together supplies. We are full time rv'ers so my wife will be providing trail support all through New Mexico till the San Juan Mountains. We camp hosted last year and she will be working one of the forest service campgrounds starring in early May. From there I'll hike as a normal thru hiker does, hopefully still nobo as it does not appear that there is much snow in the San Juans, but TBD.
I hope that you enjoy this journal of my efforts and sign the guestbook.
