Local Park under 4 ft. Of Water

Well it has been raining here in the Pacific Northwest for over a week. I has been a steady rain that goes on and on, day and night. Occasionally we have gotten a break of a few hours and then it starts in again. Although March was dryer than usual, April, so far, has more than made up for it. Flood control dams in the Cascade Range have been having to release water at an unprecedented rate to keep them from overtopping and prevent breaching. This, along with the heavy rains have caused, you guessed it, flooding down stream. Not nearly as bad as it would be without the dams, but flooding nonetheless. Still, our flooding is nothing like they have had in the Midwest which has been epic in its extent and damage.

As a result of this nonstop precipitation my training hikes have been on the soggy side, but, as I like to say, anyone can hike in nice weather

Meanwhile, I have not heard from Glacier about my backcountry permit request, but they say it can take up to 2 months to hear back from them. I have had conversations with Cappuccino and Scatman and they are still intending to join me for the start in Grand Lake, CO. And Nancy and I have gotten our plane reservations for Denver. So that is all set. I will probably start preparing resupply boxes in another month or so and continue to train and slowly ramp up the milage as my start date approaches. In many ways this is the hardest time for me, because it is mostly just waiting...

Until next week -Happy Trails
