Elisabeth Lake to Canadian Border 10 miles
When I woke the wind had subsided and I saw the moon over night which were both promising for today’s weather. I spoke to the wife of the Tennessee couple at breakfast and she was concerned about the wind on Stoney Indian Pass. I would be too if I were going up there today. The weather had definitely turned for the better. On the way out Belly River, I was down to my base layer for the first time in four days, and the sun felt great! I’m really appreciating the sun these days!
The walk out Belly River was beautiful with all the mountains I came across at my back. It was bitter sweet to finish, but sad to have such a great journey come to an end. I felt strong hiking out the mostly flat valley and past the r Belly River ranger station that had a phenomenal view of the mountain valley. I think the horses in the corral were even enjoying it!
In short order I found myself approaching the Belly River trailhead where Slow Bro and Nancy were waiting for me. It was so nice of them to pick me up and it was nice to end with people that could relate to the hike. Slow Bro took some pictures at the traihead and at the border. The border agent allowed the picture, but wasn’t very friendly.
On the way back to the park, a large grizzly bear crossed the road in front of us. It was good to see a bear and even better to see it from the safety of the car.
Later we drove the Going ti the Sun road and the park amazed me again with its natural beauty. It was a great end to a wonderful adventure.
