Subject: Post-Hike Day 1

Sunday October 27, 2019
We were slow to wake up. There was no alarm going off and the shade was pulled tight. We made it down to the EconoLodge breakfast extravaganza (waffles, cereal and yogurt) to see a couple of our buddies: Chippen and Toystory (now finished) who were there with Toystory???s Dad and brother and also Rainskirt readying for his last section. He couldn???t help but linger with us as he was about to head out alone again for four days. We did all sorts of little things to clean up after so long on the trail like cleaning out our packs and food bags as well as hand washing some of our down clothes. Everything dries so quickly here, it is a great opportunity. Betsy did all sorts of planning for the next few days when we will be in Phoenix. About three weeks ago we made our plane reservations back to Portland with a couple day buffer in case we were delayed for any reason. As it worked out, we ended up a day earlier than expected and now have a little extra time before we head back home. We now have tickets to visit Taliesin West, the Frank Lloyd Wright center, an Air-BNB and a rental car for a day. Thanks Betsy!

We head out of here tomorrow morning on the Grayhound bus that leaves from just down the street behind the McDonalds.

I am really enjoying the denouement of today and for the next several days. It is nice to not have to be so ???On task??? getting the miles in each day. We actually watched the TV some this afternoon (Patriots beating Cleveland and part of a Star Wars movie we had not seen). I???m actually looking forward to a mindless Grayhound bus ride.

Animal report: not even any urban animals or bugs in this hot area of concrete
