Tent on the CDT 2019

Begin planning the CDT Hike

What got me to do the CDT twice? I was attempting to buy property, and everything just got way too expensive, so the best way to deal with that was to get back on the trail. Although the insanity of doing the same trail only 2 years apart, may have dissuaded me. But what else is one to do in this situation?

So it begins. I really would like to do it in one calendar year, and the 2019 was only stopped by 2 large early snow storms. This doesn't mean that a freak snow storm couldn't hit Colorado, when I would have loved to enjoy a snow free trail, but I am looking forward to the 100 mile section of trail that I never really saw, due to the 300% snow pack in Southern Colorado in 2019. Now working on the planning the resupply. Yes, I pre-plan my food, as for me this is the preferred way to travel. Takes some of the guesswork out of getting food in a trail town, and easier to work around allergies for me. The snow pack at the North end of the CDT seems fairly significant this year. The Issue I am up against, is if I start the actual CDT on June 1st, it will likely be snowy, and more challenging start, but if I delay Ill need to also finish later, which would push the end date to mid November, which I suppose it doable, but it does tempt fate. Fate of colder winter weather, and also, could I live with the chance of being snowed out of the Southern Terminus in 2021, after being snowed out of the Northern Terminus in 2019? Alas, the decisions we must make.
For Now Ill keep packing for the primary goal of a SOBO on the CDT.
For people who may not know some of the Hiker terminology, I offer these few definitions.

Zero - Refers to the miles a hiker hiked that day, zero means, they

hiked zero miles, basically they took a day off.

Nero - Similar to Zero, they hiked just a few miles, but basically a day off. (probably less than 10 miles.)

NOBO - Refers to a North bound hike.

SOBO - South Bound hike.

Thru Hiker - Someone who intends to hike the full length of a given trail.

Section Hiker - Someone who intends to hike part of a given trail.

Vortex - Refers to any town, a hiker is going through or even near. Hikers are pulled into Vortexes due to hiker hunger, etc.

Hiker Hunger - A large appetite created by section or thru hiking. i.e. burning 3 - 6,000 calories a day on a trail creates hiker hunger.
